Week 20 (20/12/08)

I wasn’t going to bet this weekend and am off to the races at Ascot tomorrow but there’s an opportunity that looks too good to miss.

Real Mallorca v Sevilla (Spain: Sun 5pm local time)

The deal here is that Mallorca are poor and it turns out Sevilla are better than I thought they were. Mallorca are the last team to go through the spinner rinse and play the big 4, yet already only Osasuna have less points than them. It’s realistic to expect them to get no more points from the next 4 games and so could easily be in a poor position at the half way stage. Sevilla lost to Barcelona 3-0 a few weeks back but have bounced back beating Madrid 4-3 in the Bernebau and then winning against Villareal. If we look at the bottom line stats we see Sevilla would win the 4/7 and Mallorca would lose 2/7  which overall gives odds of 2.33. The price is much lower than this but I do think the fact Mallorca have not played the big 4 matches is crucial. In their last 10 games they have taken just 5 points, whereas Sevilla have accrued 19 and played Barcelona, Real Madrid, Valencia and Villarreal. William Hill offer 1.83 on this match and I think they have it about right. 2.1 is far too much.

++ Win Market – Sevilla @ 2.1 on Paddy Power (1pt) – 2 generally

1 point staked on the weekend.

Good luck in whatever bets you do.

Week 19 Roundup (15/12/08)

Nice to have a winning weekend again with 3 out of 4 wins and 2¼ pts profit. The loser was the Barcelona bet and hats off to Madrid as they came with a good game plan and possibly could have come away with a little more from there if their best chances had fallen to someone like Higuain as opposed to Drenthe. I guess Barcelona deserved the win but it was a little hairy for them especially with the missed penalty.

Elsewhere it was another odd weekend in England for the big 4 and looks like no-one wants to win the league.

The winning bets started with MK Dons who won 4-2 on Friday night, then Getafe who comfortably won 4-1 and finally Marseille drew with Lyon so we won the Asian Handicap there.  France looks very tight with the top 8 only separated by 8 points and as I said before Lyon can’t keep winning the league so maybe this is the season it changes.

70 Bets (65.5 points staked) :: 26 won – 37 lost – 6 void – 1 half void :: -2.22 points

No midweek bets and also in the next few weeks I will be on the road a lot and will mean less selections. The site will be updated but there may be bets next weekend, but after that it is unlikely there will be anything until the new year.

* This does not include the 3 antepost bets.

Week 19 (12/12/08)

Another weekend is here. Less selections this weekend and getting these out a bit earlier as well as not able to do much this evening and also one includes tonight’s match in League One. There is no corner bet at the moment as I am waiting for the prices t complete them. If I find anything will add it on.

El Classico in Spain this weekend and sure to be a good watch. Barcelona will be desperate to beat Real Madrid and go someway to avenging the 4-1 defeat they suffered last season at the Bernebau. Real have a serious injury crisis and will struggle to get a decent team out. All the Barcelona players were rested midweek and will be fresh and are on fire. Henry getting hatrick last weekend would have done him the world of good and with Eto’o and Messi in their form it’s frightening. Torres and Heinze are injured and Marcelo is suspended so the left back is a huge problem, especially as they will be up against Messi and Alves.

Brighton v MK Dons (English League One: Fri 7:45pm Local Time)

The bottom line here is Brighton have taken 10 points from a possible 27 at home and the Dons have the best away record in the league with 19 points from a possible 27. Interestingly Brighton’s 2 home wins have come against Leicester and Millwall who are the only teams above the Dons in the league. Still 2 wins for them and 3 losses doesn’t inspire confidence and if we take the 3 losses for them at home and add them to the Dons 6 wins away we have an evens chance of a MK win and that sounds about right.

++ Win Market – MK Dons @ 2.4 on Coral (1pt) – 2.375 generally

Lyon v Marseille (France Ligue 1: Sun 9pm Local Time)

A win for Marseille here and they will join Lyon on level points and there really can’t be a better time to play them. Lyon have a few injuries and have only won 2 of the last 7 games in all competitions including home defeats by Bayern in the Champions League and Metz in the cup.  They have lost 2 and draw 1 of the last 3 league matches and scored just one goal. Their league home record is very solid though as they are unbeaten winning 6/8. However, Marseille are unbeaten away this season in the league and have only lost twice in their 17 matches and both times at home. I could see this game being a draw and taking Marseille on the Asian Handicap (+0.5) looks a very good bet as it’s the same as double chance. Something has to give and hopefully it could be Lyon.

++ Asian Handicap – Marseilles (+0.5) @ 1.95 on Bet365 (1pt)

Getafe v Real Mallorca (Spain: Sun 5pm local time)

I think Mallorca could be in real trouble this season. They lie in 16th place and next week start going through the spinner rinse playing that crazy big 4 stretch of games. To be so low down the table and without playing these matches shows what they are like. They have won just once in the last 9 matches and have lost 5 of their 7 away games this season. Looking at Getafe’s form it doesn’t look good with 2 draws and 1 win all to show in the past 5 matches but look again and the games were against Villarreal, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla and Valencia (when they were reduced to 10 men fairly early). I think nearly every team in the league would be happy with 5 points from that run of games. Their home record doesn’t look great with only 2 wins but the 3 defeats were against Sevilla, Valencia and Atletico and Mallorca do not fit into that group.

++ Win Market – Getafe @ 1.91 on Boyles/Paddy Power/Coral (1pt)

Barcelona v Real Madrid (Spain: Sat 10pm local time)

I mentioned this at the start of the message and it is hard to see past Barcelona in this. Real Madrid really are in a bad way and not sure if sacking Schuster was the solution. Injuries to Pepe, Schneider, Heinze, Diarra and Van Nistelrooy have severely weakened them. Can they raise themselves for this game? I don’t think so and if you look at the players available they really have no depth. I could go through them stating the ones I am not impressed with but don’t see the point. I can see them going behind early, someone like Guti or Ramos getting sent off and then really being humiliated. Bet365 offer 80/1 on 5-0 and 5-1 and I will have a nibble at that. Barcelona destroyed Sevilla 3-0, then Valencia 4-0 and as Sevilla beat Madrid 4-3 last weekend in the Bernebau you have to ask what will happen. CampNou will be packed solid and they are in confident mood and rightly so. Barça are 6/1 with Skybet to score 4 or more but if we go back the last 15 ‘El Classico’ games at Camp Nou Barcelona have scored 3 or more 6 times. That’s should be odds of 2.5 and added to the fact they scoring goals for fun and have managed 26 in 7 home games so far this season the 3.75 on them to score 3 or more looks great value.

++ To Score 3+ Goals – Barcelona @ 3.75 on Skybet (1pt)

4 points staked on the weekend.

Good luck in whatever bets you do.

Week 18 Roundup (08/12/08)

Not good. We lost one game to a postponement, the corner bet went down 6-3 so a deficit of 3 and not the 1.5 we bet on. Finally Fulham couldn’t beat ManCity and Rennes drew 1-1. The Rennes draw was an extra pain as Lyon lost so if they had won that game they would have been 2 points off the top.

Barcelona outclassed Valencia 4-0 and were good value for it even without Eto’o who has played a huge part this season. Real Madrid did look a bit unlucky in losing to Sevilla but they they did and with Robben out next week they could go there with a very poor team. Barcelona were humiliated last season at the Bernebau when they had to give Madrid a guard of honour before the game and then went on to lose. They will be desperate to score quite a few and I don’t think they’ll take their foot off the pedal.

I looked back at last seasons results and was in a negative position at Christmas so that back end of the season was profitable and think it will be the same this time round.

A few games in the championship this midweek which I’ll have a look at later.

Week 18 (06/12/08)

Quite a tough card to make sense of this weekend. Am avoiding the Championship after getting burnt there last weekend. The MK Dons and Gillingham both tempted me but I couldn’t make a good enough case for them.

Barcelona are a very short price against Valencia and I thought Valencia played well last weekend and in Mata and Villa have two very dangerous players. Marchena being suspended is a big blow, but Valdes likes an error against Valencia! Real Madrid v Sevilla is another interesting one with all the Madrid injuries. Would need to see their line up. One price that is too big is the €60 to get in to see Sporting take on Atletico Madrid in the cheapest seats when it’s normally €30!

Corner bet to begin as always

Newcastle v Stoke (English Premiership: Sat 3pm Local Time)

Newcastle have played Wigan, Villa, West Brom, ManCity, Blackburn, Hull and Bolton at home this season and only had more corners than any of them once. Looking at Stoke away, if we drop the big 4 matches, we have 5 games and they have won the corner count 3 out of those 5. With the line giving Stoke a +1.5 handicap if we take all these games it would have been a winner 10/12 times and so needs to be bet.

++ Asian Handicap Corners – Stoke +1.5 @ 1.85 on Bet365 (1pt)

Fulham v ManchesterCity (English Premiership: Sat 12:45pm Local Time)

In Fulham were to win this game on Saturday then they would be left with the second best home record in the division. Better than Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and even Stoke! 5 wins from 7 home games, with 1 draw and 1 loss is very impressive. ManCity arrive and they have taken just 5 points from a possible 21 away. It looks like money talks as they really should not be a similar price to Fulham in this game. Fulham have lost just once in the last 8 matches, whereas ManCity have won just once. The win odds are tempting but by taking the asian handicap I think we have a nice safety net.

++ Draw No Bet – Fulham @ 1.91 on Sporting Bet365 (1pt) – Asian Handicap – Fulham (0) @ 1.9 on Bet365

Motherwell v Hearts (Scottish Premier: Sat 3pm Local Time)

I think this is the second time I have found a bet in Scotland this season. Hearts come into this in good form and are in 3rd place whereas Motherwell are 3rd from the bottom. Hearts have won 4 of their last 5 games keeping clean sheets in all those wins, with the only loss against Celtic. Motherwell are the opposite having scored just once in their last 5 games and with just a solitary point from a possible 15. If you take their records at home and away this game looks like it could swing either way but as we can get evens on the asian handicap the form of hearts looks to swing the bet in our favour.

++ Asian Handicap – Hearts (0) @ 1.98 on Bet365 (1pt)

Caen v Rennes (France: Sat 7pm local time)

Time to reach for the Rennes again and I can’t get enough of these boys. They sit in 2nd place in France, 5 points behind Lyon but are still unbeaten since the Grenoble game on 17th August. That’s 15 matches and after drawing too many matches earlier on they seem to have got a few more in the W column now. In their opening game of the season they drew 4-4 with Marseille and since then have conceded just 7 goals in 15 matches. This I think is very important. Looking at their last 10 games they have scored 14 and let in just 4. Caen’s home record looks decent but the 4 teams they have beaten are all in the bottom 7. They have only played teams in the top half twice and won one and drew one. Rennes I think will be too good and 1-0 looks a sensible scoreline but lets take Rennes to win.

++ Win Market – Rennes @ 2.8 on Betfred (1pt) – @ 2.75 on General

French League

I looked at the above game and have studied Rennes inside out so far and I am happy to recommend ½pt e/w on them to win the French League. We can get ½ odds on finishing second and at 40/1 I think this is worth a shot. It might blow up but it looks good value and Lyon can’t keep winning the league forever!

++ Win Market – Rennes to win France Ligue 1 @ 40/1 on Boylesports (½pt e/w)

5 points staked on the weekend.

Good luck in whatever bets you do.
