Week 15 Bets (02.02.08)

SSS Tips

Hoping to build on the midweek profit, which would have been better I hadn’t been tripped up in the championship, and not for the first time either. My friend the bear came out of hibernation and once again gave me the advice that as a rule of thumb avoid betting on the championship. I think he’s got something there.

The double bets have been half decent lately so I’m going for another.

Fulham v Aston Villa (eng prem – sun 4pm local time)/Inter Milan v Empoli (serie A – sun 3pm local time)

Aston Villa have lost just once away this season at ManchesterCity. They have visited Chelsea and Liverpool but still are unbeaten in the other 10. I would be surprised to see them lose to Fulham. Although they have a new manager and he’s been pretty active they have managed just 2 wins in 12 home games and haven’t won in 12. Villa have lost just 2 in the last 15 so I think draw no bet looks like a safe option here, with Villa best priced 1.67.
Inter
Milan have led at half time in 8/10 home games this season and I would expect that to continue at lowly Empoli. Considering they are best priced 1.2 for the win the quotes of 1.62 to be leading at HT are very generous.

A corner bet.

Liverpool v Sunderland (eng prem – sat 3pm local time)

I'm doing a different bet here for the first time. Liverpool concede the lowest average corners in the league but themselves don't exactly get that many at home averaging 5.5. Paddy Power offer a bet on the number of team corners and Liverpool are on offer at 2.2 for under 7 corners. I think they might give Sunderland a beating tomorrow as their away form is tripe and when Liverpool do that they don't get many corners, such as 4 corners v Derby (6-0), 5 corners v Bolton (4-0) and 3 corners v Pompey (4-1). In fact in only 3 of the 11 games this season have they had more than 6 corners making this look decent.

Now the rest.

Wrexham v Darlington (eng lge 2 – sat 3pm local time)

Wrexham stunned the MK Dons with a 1-0 two weeks ago and since they have draw with Bradford and Morecombe. By all accounts they were very lucky to get a point at Morecombe and their captain picked up a red card and is suspended this weekend. Before this mini revival they had lost 7 in a row and are still rock bottom. Darlington arrive in second place and a quote of above evens for the away win looks good. They have won 5 of the last 6 on the road with the one loss at Rochdale, who are flying.

Notts County v Grimsby (eng lge 2 – sat 3pm local time)

Another league 2 game and this it’s 18th v 12th. Not an obvious candidate for a bet but Grimsby arrive at NottsCounty with the second best form in the league in the last 10 matches (only Rochdale have better). They have won 5 of the last 7 and 4 of the last 6 away. NottsCounty have 1 win in 9 and have lost 5 of the last 7 at home. Amazingly you can pick up Grimsby at 7/4 to win but I’ll play a bit safe as the asian handicap is 0 (draw no bet) and it’s still above evens.

Almeria v Real Madrid (la liga – sat 8pm local time)

This the early game on Saturday night and the league leaders travel to Almeria who came up last season. Almeria have given a very good account of themselves this first season but playing Madrid is a different kettle of fish. They are grinding out results when needed, outscoring opponents, like last week against Villareal and just keep on winning. The defence has tightened up, and recently went 575 minutes without conceding a goal. Almeria have done well at home but only scored 8 goals in 11 games. With Madrid conceding just 7 goals in 11 away games and clean sheets in the last 4 the odds on them to win to 0 look good. Robinho is the man in form and you can sense the excitement and danger whenever he gets on the ball.
